Keep Cool. It's Just Exercise
June 24, 2013
Don’t let the heat ruin your workout regime. Here are ways to stay cool while exercising:
Heavy and Hot: Thick, heavy fabrics will heat up your body quicker and prevent it from cooling off. Make sure to choose an outfit made of light-weight materials. There are many breathable fabrics currently offered in sports apparel. Choose an outfit that wicks away sweat or is slightly loose fitting and allows a breeze. When choosing an outfit, follow these three rules:
1. Make sure it is appropriate for the type of exercise you are doing
2. Make sure you are comfortable
3. Make sure you are confident
Drink up: Make sure to stay hydrated. It is important to stay hydrated before, during and after your workout. Prepare your body by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. During your workout, make sure to keep drinking. Listen to your body, and get a sip of water when needed. After your workout replenish liquid and salt loss with an electrolyte infused sports drink.
Choose your time wisely: Don’t exercise at the hottest point of the day. If the weather forecast shows breaking heat in the middle of the day, choose a morning or evening exercise time. You can also opt to exercise indoors, at your home, or in a gym.
Let’s talk about it: What are your tips for keeping cool while working out?
